Cupid called.

February 14, 2012

Here’s a little ditty for you. The RAC remix version of this song by Mr. Little Jeans made our hearts melt a little in the feature film, 50/50. Whoever you are, wherever you are, and whatever you’re doing, happy Valentine’s Day from the Sour Cream & Jives. “Be my angel, be my angel…”

“I am on my way…

February 9, 2012

…back to where I started.”

There is absolutely nothing more therapeutic than being on the road, for a while, that is. I would like you to meet (if you haven’t already), The Head And The Heart.

King Charles – Ivory Road

November 16, 2011

This is a fun one… especially towards the end of the song.  Let it grow on you.  And stomp that foot, if you ever so please.  If you dig it, download the track for free – on him: http://bit.ly/KCdlir

Music from Canada: Young Empires

November 10, 2011

Lots of good music coming out of Canada lately… eh?  Stumbled upon Young Empires on Hype Machine, Googled ‘em,  and after getting kind of sold on the look and layout of their website (appealing to look at on a Monday morning), my first impression was…well, enough for me to share it with YOU, here, right MEOW.  Oh, and looks like they’re dropping in album in January. Follow them in 2012. Until then, here’s their twitter handle: @youngempires.

NEWBIE: “ENTER THROUGH THE SUN”

OLDIE: “GLORY OF THE NIGHT”

You Were Also Promised Jetpacks.

October 19, 2011

The latest album “In The Pit Of The Stomach” from We Were Promised Jetpacks was released earlier this month, which brings existing WWPJ fans something new to put on repeat while giving the new listeners a group to get stoked enough to follow them on twitter.

First, be sure you’ve listened to their earlier album, “These Four Walls.” Totally repeat-worthy. I’ve included the track “Conductor” below two recommended tracks from their new album.

Visit their website to get a free download of “Act on Impulse.”

Everything here is beautiful.

September 16, 2011

Dear Johnny Flynn,

Who ARE you? And where did you run off to with that sweet-sounding guitar?

Dear Laura Marling,

The beauty within you and your voice…I kinda want that. I think I love you. Please let me know if you ever need a substitute or back up. Until then, thank you for singing us lullabies and to some of us, being an inspiration.

The Head and the Heart

June 7, 2011

Nothing better than meeting friends in the park on a summer evening over Two-Buck Chuck and the anticipation of a free Iron & Wine show only to discover something profound and unexpected from their opener. This is The Head and the Heart. (Chicagoans: 7/25/2011 @ the Aragon Ballroom.)

Caught Up in the Murdoch

March 5, 2011

Good things are in store for all of us this week. (Literally). Just when Hunkering Down became the new “HD” this winter, March is on a mission to reacquaint us with “Spring.” (Poor Mr. Groundhog allegedly suffered on his big day this year.) Chicago’s Winter of 2011 is straight up *blizzarded, man. Regardless, ’tis the season to discover the next stuck-on-repeat album, preferably a 2011 release. So yeah! I think I found one!

Alexi Murdoch “Towards the Sun” represents Spring in an audible format, geared towards the over-winter mindsets. Haven’t you seen ‘Garden State’? You’ve heard the Soundtrack, right? If not, Google that…duh. In the mean time, enjoy the track selection per below. Regardless of the weather, allow this particular sound to represent an audible fireplace. If you get caught up in the Murdoch, just go with it.

Now the ice is stirring and spring is near
There is no one calling but the sound is clear
Though I’m not yet gone, I’m still not here

Onward!

*Side Bar: For your bucket lists, be sure to coin a term and have it reviewed by a team of “editors” and get it published on Urban Dictionary. Trust me, just allow 3-4 weeks lead time.
